Adaptive daily practice

Problem

Static word lists made home spelling practice repetitive and dependent on an adult operating every test.

Solution

Adaptive sessions, spoken context, adult-led and solo modes, local profiles and custom word lists.

Impact

Repeatable iPhone and iPad practice children can use independently while adults retain useful progress.

The problem

I created Spell School for Krish to make regular home practice more useful than reading from a static list. It needed to work with an adult and when a child was ready to practise alone.

The solution

Adult-led mode shows the word, definition and example while the adult records the result. Solo mode speaks the word and lets the child build the spelling without revealing the answer.

Daily practice that changes with the child

The UK word bank contains more than 5,000 words. Sessions mix review words with new material and retire a word only after enough correct attempts. An unfinished session does not change progress.

The evidence

Custom lists can be typed, selected from the bank or scanned from paper with on-device text recognition. Spoken practice also runs on the device with a UK voice.

Made for children to use

Large controls and clear success or error states give children independence while keeping progress useful to adults.

Child data stays on the device

Child profiles, practice history and goals stay on the family’s device. There is no account, advertising profile or analytics identity to create.

The impact

Spell School made a repeated family task easier and gave Krish practice he could complete alone or with an adult.

The result

Children can practise alone while adults keep useful progress.
